深ふかい海うみの底そこに、アリエルという人魚姫にんぎょひめが住すんでいました。
アリエルは仲良なかよしのフランダーと海うみを探検たんけんするのが大好だいすきでした。
いつか人間にんげんになって陸りくの世界せかいに行いってみたいと夢見ゆめみていました。

Deep beneath the sea lived a little mermaid named Ariel. She loved exploring her underwater home with her friend flounder but dreamed of living on land as a human.

あるとき、アリエルはいつものようにフランダーと宝物たからものを探さがしていると、

Ariel was always searching for human treasures.

見慣みなれないものを見みつけました。
二人ふたりは海うみの上うえに出でて、かもめのスカットルに聞ききに行いきました。

When she and Flounder found a strange forked object, they swam to the surface to find Scuttle the seagull.

「これは人間にんげんどもがよく使つかうものだ！カミスキーだな」フォークを見みて、スカットルは自慢じまんげに言いいました。

“It’s a dinglehopper!” he proclaimed.

アリエルの父親ちちおやである海うみの王様おうさまトリトンは、人間にんげんは危険きけんだと考かんがえていました。

Ariel’s father was King Triton, ruler of the sea. He thought humans were dangerous.

娘むすめが海うみの上うえに行いったことを知しったトリトン王おうは怒おこって、
二度にどと海うみの上うえに行いってはならないと命めいじました。
そして、カニのセバスチャンにアリエルを見張みはるよう言いいました。

When he learned that Ariel had been to the surface, he forbade her to ever go again! Then he asked Sebastian the crab to keep an eye on her.

しかしアリエルは、それでも海うみの上うえに行いき続つづけました。
ある夜よる、ひどい嵐あらしが海うみを襲おそいました。

But Ariel continued to go to the surface. One night, a terrible storm swept across the sea.

大おおきな船ふねが波なみにのまれ、乗のっていた人間にんげんがアリエルの目めの前まえで海うみに投なげ出だされました。
「助たすけに行いかなくちゃ！」

Ariel and Flounder watched as a prince fell off a huge ship. “I must save him!” she cried.

アリエルは、その人間にんげんを陸りくまで連つれて行いきました。
その人間にんげんはエリック王子おうじでした。

Ariel pulled Prince Eric to shore and sang to him. Then she swam away.

エリックは、アリエルの顔かおを見みることができませんでしたが、彼女かのじょの美うつくしい歌声うたごえは、
いつまでも忘わすれることができませんでした。

Prince Eric only caught a glimpse of Ariel's face, but he knew he would remember her beautiful voice forever.

エリックにまた会あいたいと願ねがうアリエルは、海うみの魔女まじょアースラに会あいました。

Desperate to see Prince Eric again, Ariel agreed to give her voice to the evil sea witch Ursula.

悪わるだくみをしたアースラは、アリエルの声こえとひきかえに

With bigger plans in mind, Ursula cast a spell...

アリエルを人間にんげんにしたのです！

...and turned Ariel into a human!

三日目みっかめの日没にちぼつまでにエリックからキスをされなければ、
アリエルは人魚にんぎょに戻もどってしまいます。

But if Prince Eric didn't kiss Ariel by sunset on the third day, she would become a mermaid again.

それどころか、一生いっしょうアースラの言いいなりにならなければいけないのです！

Even worse, she would belong to the sea witch forever!

人間にんげんになったアリエルはエリックと再会さいかいしますが、声こえを失うしなったアリエルが自分じぶんを助たすけてくれた女おんなの子こだとエリックは気きづきません。

Charmed by her silent beauty, Prince Eric showed Ariel his kingdom.

しかし、二人ふたりはだんだん仲良なかよくなっていきました。

Ariel loved being with the prince in the human world, but the two had not yet kissed.

不安ふあんになったアースラは、バネッサという娘むすめに変身へんしんしました。

Worried that Prince Eric was falling in love with Ariel, Ursula transformed herself into the beautiful Vanessa.

彼女かのじょはエリック王子おうじを誘惑ゆうわくしようとします。

She was going to make the prince fall in love with her instead.

バネッサはアリエルから奪うばった美うつくしい声こえを使つかってエリックに魔法まほうをかけ、
自分じぶんを好すきだと思おもい込こませます。

Disguised as Vanessa and using Ariel's voice, the sea witch cast a spell on Prince Eric. He thought he was in love.

とうとうエリックはバネッサに結婚けっこんを申もうし込こんでしまいます。

He was going to marry Vanessa! Ariel had lost her true love.

エリックとバネッサの結婚式けっこんしきの日ひ、バネッサの正体しょうたいがアースラだと知しったスカットルは、すぐさまアリエルのもとに向むかいました。

Just before sunset on the third day, Scuttle discovered that Vanessa was Ursula in disguise. He hurried to warn Ariel.

セバスチャンがトリトン王おうを探さがしに行いっている間あいだ、アリエルはフランダーとともに
エリックたちの乗のった船ふねへと急いそぎます。

As Sebastian went to find King Triton, Ariel and Flounder raced to catch Prince Eric's ship.

アリエルは仲間なかまたちの力ちからを借かりて、結婚式けっこんしきを止とめ、自分じぶんの声こえを取とり戻もどしました。

With the help of her friends, Ariel was able to stop the wedding and get her voice back.

魔法まほうが解とけたエリックは、アリエルこそが愛あいする女性じょせいだと気きづきます。
しかし手遅ておくれでした。

Released from Ursula's spell, Prince Eric realized that Ariel was the one he truly loved. But it was too late.

アリエルとエリックがキスをする前まえに日ひが沈しずんでしまったのです。
アリエルは人魚にんぎょに戻もどってしまい、アースラに捕とらえられてしまいました。

The sun went down before Ariel and the prince could kiss. She was a mermaid once more, and she belonged to Ursula.

トリトン王おうは娘むすめを救すくうために、アースラに魔力まりょくを渡わたしてアリエルの身代みがわりに牢屋ろうやに
入いれられてしまいます。
「あたしが海うみの支配者しはいしゃだ！」アースラは大声おおごえで叫さけびました。

To save his daughter, King Triton gave Ursula his great powers and became her prisoner. "Now I am the ruler of all the ocean!" shouted Ursula.

巨大きょだいな怪物かいぶつとなり海うみの上うえに姿すがたを現あらわしたアースラに立たち向むかおうと、エリックは船ふねに
飛とび乗のりました。

As Ursula grew in size and towered above the sea, Prince Eric jumped aboard an old ship.

エリックはギザギザの船主せんしゅをアースラの心臓しんぞうめがけて体当たいあたりしました。
大おおきなうめき声こえとともに、アースラは波なみに消きえて行いきました。

He steered its jagged bow through Ursula's heart. With a howl, the sea witch disappeared in the waves.

魔力まりょくを取とり戻もどしたトリトン王おうは、娘むすめの願ねがいを叶かなえてやることにしました。
アリエルを人間にんげんにしてあげたのです！

With Ursula gone, King Triton regained his powers. Seeing Ariel's love for Prince Eric, the king granted her wish: She became human!

アリエルとエリックは結婚けっこんし、海沿うみぞいのお城しろで幸しあわせに暮くらしました。

Ariel and Prince Eric married and lived happily in a castle by the sea.
